Cholla wood, a beloved addition to freshwater shrimp tanks, serves both as a functional element and a natural aesthetic enhancement. This porous wood, derived from the skeleton of the Cholla cactus, offers a myriad of benefits for shrimp habitats. Its intricate, hollow structure creates ideal hiding spots for shrimp, especially molting individuals seeking shelter during their vulnerable phase. Cholla wood slowly releases tannins into the water, imparting a gentle amber tint and contributing to a natural, softening effect on water hardness and pH levels. As the wood decomposes, it promotes the growth of biofilm, a nutritious food source for shrimp. Beyond its functional attributes, Cholla wood adds a captivating, rustic charm to the aquarium, making it a favored choice for aquarists aiming to create a visually appealing and conducive environment for their shrimp colonies.

~6 in long, my snails and shrimp jumped on it immediately. Shipped dry so no risk of most aquatic pests and I didn’t see anything else that could have possibly survived. Really fun watching them move on and through the wood!

Once put in the water, it sunk the next day, and both the shrimp and bottom feeders seem to enjoy it the most! Plus it’s very pretty and adds a lot to the tank!

Attached a java moss leaf. Big enough to make for a tiny baby shrimp hide tunnel.

Great little piece, smaller than expected but not a problem for the price!
