Anubias nana is a small, attractive plant that thrives in all conditions. It originates from Cameroon and will reach 5-10 cm height. The rhizome will be 10-15 cm or more. It grows slowly, and the leaves survive for several years, giving slow-growing algae the chance to become established. The best result is achieved by planting on a stone or tree root. Fishing line can be used to attach the plant until it gains a hold. If planted on the bottom the rhizome must not be covered because it tends to rot. It flowers frequently under water and will thrive in shady places, where other plants will not. It is not eaten by herbivorous fish.

Anubias nana is an ideal plant for aquariums as it requires low to moderate lighting and does not need CO2 injection. It can be planted in aquarium substrate or attached to rocks or driftwood. The plant prefers slightly acidic to neutral water and a temperature range of 22-28°C.

Here are some tips for caring for Anubias nana:

Planting: Plant the rhizome on a hard surface like a stone or tree root, and use fishing line to secure it until it takes hold. If planting on the bottom of the aquarium, don’t cover the rhizome as it can rot.

Fertilizing: Regular fertilization can help the plant survive and thrive.

Lighting: Anubias nana can tolerate low to medium light conditions.

CO2: CO2 isn’t necessary, but it can help the plant grow faster and produce stronger leaves.
Anubias nana is also available in smaller varieties, such as Anubias Nana Petite, which is ideal for the foreground of an aquarium.
