Originating from China, this selectively bred Neocaridina davidi 'Red Onyx' is prized for its deep maroon to dark brown coloration. While still a relatively new variety, its unique color is a testament to ongoing breeding efforts aimed at refining its appearance. In terms of care, the Red Onyx shrimp shares the same requirements as its Neo cousins, thriving in well-maintained aquariums with stable water parameters. It reaches a manageable size of approximately 1.5 inches, with females exhibiting more vibrant colors and slightly larger size than males.
